lplover

If you want browse through trashy old lp covers here is the place to be!
They have tons of covers and often short explanations of the covers and the bands who are behind the masterworks. Some examples:

exactitude

The second post is about Rotterdam-based photographer Ari Versluis and profiler Ellie Uyttenbroek.
They were interested by the different dress codes in social groups and began in 1994 taking shots of people. They put them together and present they work, which they call exactitudes here. I personally like this one:

Néojaponisme

Hey,
Sorry that I didn't post so much thee last days. Yeah I know this is getting more and more regular.
But today I will make up for the lack of postings.
I will begin with a page called Néojaponisme. It is a website who handles everything japanese. I just stumbled over this page and I quite can't tell where they are going. Thy seem to be political and philosophical, how strong I still don't know. But if you want to see something that is more than a conglomeration of mindless links and pictures (not that my “blog” is exactly that...) you are on the right homepage. Perhaps we let them talk for themselves:

We have taken the name Néojaponisme as a convenient rubric for our pursuits. This is not a revival of that specific Japonisme visual design style of the 19th century (now often construed as “Neo-Japanesque”), but we do indeed identify ourselves as impudent inheritors of the original Japonisme spirit. We too are non-Japanese inspired by Japanese culture, and we too hope to advocate Japanese products and creative culture that may have been devalued or ignored in Japan. But let us correct the fundamental philosophy of the previous movement in two areas:
First, we expand the idea of Japonistic Japanese inspiration beyond pure visual aesthetics to a broader appreciation of myriad creative fields.

Taken from their Manifesto which you can find here

The yes men

Now it is getting political.
If you didn't heard of them, the Yes men are a group of like they say: “genderless impostors” who impost managers, reporter and so forth to put their message out to the world. They last coup is to distribute a fake special edition of the New York Post, a journal who denies the climate change, with articles about who the climate IS changing. The clou: all of these articles were genuine and true facts!
I love the actions of the Yes men.

Extra

An old jewel from 96 surfaces again from the depths of the world wide space. 1996 the clip for Ken Ishii's track Extra was voted best Dance video of the year by MTV. Back in those days were MTV was still a MUSIC Channel and not the Monster it is now. And before Kanye West interrupts me (Yeah pop-culture Reference) Enjoy the clip.

PS: In the case you wonder the clip was made by Kouji Morimoto who was involved in one of the greatest Manga ever, “AKIRA”.

Gao Brothers

Political, subversive, Art and China. These words doesn't seemed to match . With the exception of Ai Weiwei, who by the way is recovering from a head wound who was supposedly inflicted by a chinese Policeman, I didn't hear much about this. But now I stumbled, thanks to it's nice that, over the Gao brothers. They are Beijing based artists who criticize the chinese government. They have trouble to show they art in China and they getting famous in the other countries.

I don't know the title for this one but I love it.

world war robots

Hey,
just recently I stumbled across the work from Ashley Wood. An australian comic author and artist. he made the series called world war robots. His drawings remind me a little bit of the designs for the robots used in Hellboy although the drawing style is different.

The first toys also exist. If you have the money you should grab one of these at bambaland

On the hompage you cann watch the trailer in norwegian with subtitles.

New music and trips

Hey,
If you ever wanted to know how a drug trip is like try this new vidoe from animal collective directed by Danny Perez for the track "summertime clothes". This time the song falls behind the visuals.

Another great clip is the the video for fever ray and the track "triangle fever". This video reminds me of old mystery Horror flicks without the schoking moments. It has a etheral feeling that floats above all and it is a good tribute to the music. Enjoy!

italian street art

I'm not sure if you already know the italian artist named blu. But I'm pretty sure that you already have seen a video from him. Hes makes some crazy Stop-motion vis with grafitti. His characters are alway morphing and changing. I love them.

Life sign and house

Hey,
Sorry for the long waiting. I hope that some of you are still here and wait for the next update. Well here it is. Let's start with a house from japan. It is desinged by the Yosuke Ichii architects an is a residential house for one family. It responds very nicely to the problem of free place an consists of two boxes, interconnected by a black cube. With this assymetric placement of the cubes and the entrance the form has some strong remainders to the old city houses in old Edo time.

adidas

Hey,
This time I will post something more serious. Perhaps you've already noticed that Adidas is celebrating some Houseparties around the globe because they want to "celebrate originality" and because they are 60 now. in Rio the Janeiro they found a really original location. A villa who belongs to a guy named Luiz Fernando Penna, a rich Lawyer, was the the place to be. Under the party people was João Paulo Cuenca, who happens to own a blog. And he noticed something. Perhaps you can see it in the Pictures here:

or here:

I think i made the point. After Cuenca remerked this his an some other guests left the party. Of course the owner isn't a Nazi (little irony here). After a german newspaper he said that he is just a collector of antiquities. And according to him the symbols at the pool are just some greek symbols. Yeah sure. Perhaps strange coincidence, if you know tha the founder of Adidas and his brother Rudolf, the founder of puma were assidiuos nazis who worked for them and were even buildt the so called "Tank terror". Hurray for Adidas. Sadly I didn't found some english publications but there are the brasilian blog and the german newspaper, where i read about this. Perhaps you can help me find some english links.
Oh and of course Adidas held no Responsibility for this.
Of course the company today isn't responible for the Actions of their founder but they had they share of child labor and other scandals to leave a bitter taste in my mouth.

Mangas

If you happen to be a manga nerd then you will like this post. In Japan they are building an 18 meter tall Gundam suite to celebrate the 30th anniversary of this series. In the moment only the legs are standing but it gives a good glimpse how awesome the finished suite will be.

good design

I cannot wait to fly to Korea. One of the main reason is that they have great design who looks very simple and playful, but has an incredible attention to detail. And on top of it all it is so damm cheap! If you don't have the possibility to go there, you can still buy it from the online Shop.

periphere

Hey,
this one is an interesting furniture company based in Montreal, Canada. Sadly I don't have any pictur to show it to you, but the website is definitely worth a glance. I especially like the stool/night table cast in concrete. Although it's made from this hard material, it has this soft, comfy look.

This nice monster is from the french Site les monstres du placard by Sandra B.. I like this simple but beautiful executed drawings. Sandra writes herself that this site is dedicated to simple scribbles without any pretention. I hope she keeps up the good work.

N.A.S.A.

Hey. I hope everybody had an nice Easter weekend. For my Part I had a great Weekend in Bremen. Now I'm back with new and fresh Graphic and Music for your ears and eyes.

My new discovery is the Project N.A.S.A from Dj Zegon and Squeak E. Clean who is the brother of movie maker Spike Jonze. They made some crazy stuff and worked with almost everybody who is important in the music business these days. My favorite is the track gifted with Likky Lee and Kayne West who is totally NOT GAY! (or a fish) ;) They worked with some awesome artists to realize their clips and they are really Mind blowing. So watch!

Objectuals

Korean Artist are pushing on the European market for Arts. If you were following the emergence of korean galleries, or galleries with korean artists,on Art Fairs the last two years, you could see a steep rise. With success.
One of these interesting artist is Hyngkooo Lee. The first time I read about him was because of his work “animatus”. He constructed different skeleton, who depicted famous comic characters like roadrunner. I loved this work because of the humor and the idea of fictional character becoming real.
One other work , is more serious and bizarre. His face and body distorting Helmet and Gauntlet called “objectuals”. With this he pursues the alienation of the body of oneself and the perception by strangers. This work is also interesting because so many korean people are going to the esthetic surgeon to correct their face.

World Crisis

How fitting is this piece? It was drawn by Christopher wool and the year of its making was 1988. The year of the Reagan crisis. I think this piece of art is, if not timeless, the at least, time repeating!

Chernobyl

Hey. Not so long ago i found this link about a Photoreportage in Chernobyl, from the guys village of Joy. The Pictures are great and they have absolutely this feeling of a postapocalyptic World.
